Many students have seen significant progress over the last term while being at home. We have seen a higher number of students prepare for exams and/or complete their current book/grade this term due to fantastic parental support. Thank you for supporting your child/children over this period and helping them to continue to focus and persist in their practice at home. Please see the relevant information for the remainder of term 2:
Face to face lessons at school:
The education department is indicating face to face lessons at schools will resume potentially from the start of term 3. We will keep you updated as we receive information. Face to face lessons at the following schools will resume during term 2:
Alternative lesson times for students returning to school on the 9th will be organised during the coming week.
Face to face lessons at Forest hill:
Most students have continued face to face lessons during the quarantine period. All students are encouraged once they feel comfortable, to resume face to face lessons as they are more effective.
By now if your child is working towards completing a technical or theory exam in term 2 you would have received a text asking you to book them in via trentbunston.com/exams Please ensure you book in your child in the next few days as we will be making preparations for their individual exams and we won’t know who to prepare for if your child is not on the list.
All orchestras will prepare to resume at the start of term 3. All orchestras have performances pending from the end of term 1. Please see the following list of pieces each orchestra will be performing in the near future:
- Mitcham PS: Spy Movie and Sad Movie (for assembly)
- Blackburn Lake PS: Barrier Reef and Cap'n Jack's Hornpipe (for assembly)
- Junior Chamber orchestra: all green quartet music, Vivaldi violin concerto in A minor and Star wars
- Rangeview PS: all the string time joggers and more string time joggers pieces (for the art expo)
- Birralee PS: all the string time joggers and more string time joggers (no pending performances)
- Vermont PS: Sad Movie and Action Movie (for assembly)
- Wedding quartet rehearsals: all green and orange quartet music
- Senior Chamber orchestra: Bach violin concerto in C major, Stamitz viola concerto in D major and CPE Bach cello concerto in A major
If your child is not currently part of an orchestra I would encourage them to trial participating at the start of term 3 as we restart rehearsals for students of all skill levels. Participating in one of the orchestras inspires students to improve but also provides them with more performance opportunities that gives them momentum in their music journey. Please let me know if you wish for your child to participate at the start of term 3 and we will arrange music for them over the holidays.
End of term performance grading:
Unfortunately our planned concert venues this semester have had to be canceled due to social distancing rules. We still hope to have our end of year concert in December at Fed square as we did last year. In the meantime our desire is to continue to provide students with the opportunity to polish and perform pieces within the current social distancing rules. On the 21st of June we will hold ‘performance gradings’ at 7 Cedar court in Forest Hill. Students will need to schedule a specific time for their performances via the trybooking link below. Parents are encouraged to come and watch their child perform. This will provide us with the opportunity to give a verbal semester report, go over exam results and hand out certificates. Students may perform more than one piece if they wish. You must book one 5min session per piece that you wish to perform to give enough time for feedback afterwards. Each 5min session will cost $5 which can be paid on the day using an envelope at the door. To complete each book/level students need to accumulate 30 performance points. Students will be graded on the following 5 categories at the performance grading:
Students will receive a 1 (low), 2 (medium) or 3 (high) in each category giving them a total score between 5 and 15 depending on how well they perform. This score will go directly to their total performance points needed to complete their grade/level.
Semester 1 reports:
Due to the changing nature of lessons this semester and the high level of communication needed to facilitate all the changes, all reports will be given verbally to parents and students at each child’s performance grading on the 21st of June. Exam results and certificates will also be handed out at the performance grading. Please click on the link below to book your child a time:
We look forward to seeing a strong finish to the term!
