SECOND HAND INSTRUMENTS

All recommended instruments used by students are bought and sold on, making purchasing a high quality instrument suitable and affordable for beginners.

EXAMPLE:

Purchase Price: $300 (your child uses for 1/1.5 years before needing to move up to the next size)

Sale Price: $270 (you sell directly to the next student via bank transfer. The $30/$40 is deducted from the purchase price as instruments become more worn over time)

Only recommended instruments bought directly from another student can be resold as their quality is guaranteed. Purchasing a poor quality instrument off eBay for $100 will have a resale value of $0.

All current second hand instruments are available to view in Forest Hill

NEW KG INSTRUMENTS

For top end student instruments, KG instruments offer the best value for money. We are fortunate to partner with Volker Beilharz who offers the best instrument setups and recommendations regarding the purchasing of new instruments. Many producers of string instruments are inconsistent in the quality of their instruments, but over time Volker has found KG instruments to offer the best consistency of quality and value for money.

When the instruments are received they come without a setup. To set up the instruments, Volker  makes a bridge, fits the sound post, fits strings, rounds the pegs and smooths the nut to ensure the sound and playability of each instrument is maximised. Volker's attention to detail is unmatched and results in the best quality instruments.

EXAMPLE:

Purchase Price: $700 (your child uses for 1/1.5 years before needing to move up to the next size)

Sale Price: $650 (you sell directly to the next student via bank transfer. The $50 is deducted from the purchase price as instruments become more worn over time)

One size of each new KG instrument is available to view in Forest Hill

HANDMADE ANITIQUE INSTRUMENTS

For advanced students seeking instruments with superior tones, our instrument bank offers the best value for students. All instruments are handmade, 100+ years of age and are purchased well under market value before being sent to Volker for restoration. Volker ensures each instrument has the best setup in order to maximise its tone.

EXAMPLE:

Purchase Price: $500

Restoration Costs: $1000

Additional Costs: $500 (case, bow, strings etc.)

Sale Price: $2000 - $3000

Conservative Market Value: $5000

All instruments are retained within the program as they are rotated through students over time. Once an instrument is purchased we ask owners to resell back to us at the sale price and not sell elsewhere to make a profit. The effort put into finding and restoring these instruments is significant because we aim to provide students with the opportunity to play and perform on instruments with the best possible tone.

Students wanting to purchase these handmade antique instruments from outside the program can purchase for the conservative market value.
